The South Florida Overlanders Foundation wants this site to be usable by as many people as possible, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or reduced motion settings.
The standard we work to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. We are not claiming to have achieved conformance across every page. This is a small volunteer organization and the honest position is that we are working toward it and will fix what gets reported.
What the site does
- A skip link to the main content on every page
- Semantic headings and landmarks for screen reader navigation
- Keyboard access to navigation, menus and interactive controls
- Text alternatives for meaningful images, and empty alt text on decorative ones
- Respect for your operating system's reduced motion setting
- Layouts that reflow to small screens without horizontal scrolling
The accessibility widget
This site carries a widget offering text sizing, contrast, link underlining, reduced motion and related adjustments. It is a convenience for visitors, and that is all it is. An overlay does not make a website accessible and we do not claim that it does. What matters is the accessibility built into the pages themselves, which is where our effort goes.
Known limitations
- Video hosted on third party platforms carries whatever captions the platform and the original upload provide. Older community videos may not be captioned.
- Some photography carries descriptive alt text that is shorter than we would like on complex aerial images.
- Documents shared by partner organizations and public agencies are outside our control.
Accessibility of our events
Outdoor events happen on uneven, remote and sometimes wet terrain, and honesty is more useful here than a blanket welcome. Some sites are genuinely difficult and some are manageable. Tell us what you need before an event and we will tell you plainly whether that particular site will work, and help you find one that does.

If something on this site or at an event blocked you, please tell us. Include the page or event and what happened. Email [email protected]. We will acknowledge within five working days and tell you what we can do and when.
